Hangman
Some hints on setting hangman to work.
Upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3, 1.3 uses an external word, clue file.
If You edit this file using a Microsoft product, or on a DOS/WINDOWS
platform, make sure You use an ASCII transfer to upload it to a UNIX
server.
If You are putting this file on a BSD server You may need to
change the first line of the file to
#!/usr/local/bin/perl
The Number one reason that people have trouble running this (500 error)
is a Return on the first line of the file. If You edit the source
on a DOS/WINDOZE platform this will happen. A Win based editor that
will allow you to get around this problem is Textpad. It has a save as
UNIX Command.
If You are installing the 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 beta and receive the word
ERROR on Your page, You probably don't have write permissions set up
correctly. Version 1.3.2 you can set $WAC=0 to get around this this.
(this will allow users to cheat, though.)
The format of the Word file
the format is a plain text file in the format of word, clue, one
word,clue pair per line.
apple,food
ape,animal
boat,thing
Multi word clues are allowed, but have not been thoroughly tested.
tiger,large cat
Version 1.3.4 and later can use multi words and capitals
