Clavichords with Decorative Finishes

Tannis Sprott and Mark McDowell are offering for sale either of the two clavichords shown below. The instruments offer the following features:

Zuckermann Clavichord III by David J. Way after J. A. Hass (design & materials c. 1974)
Unfretted, doublestrung, 59 note (GG-f ³)

The instruments were built and decorated by us in 1998. They are decorated loosely in the style of J. A. Hass clavichords (c. 1730). Each clavichord incorporates the following decorative features:

Hand carved chamfering of keys
Six coat gesso ground
Light fast inorganic pigments
Decoupaged inner lid
Distressed gold banding
Latin phrase on lockboard
Protective isolation coats
Multiple coats of UV filtered, removable, mineral spirits based conservation varnish

The sound of these instruments is rich, with great dynamic range and surprising resonance. They are suitable for all the keyboard literature through early Beethoven. Price available upon request.
